Waking up, my body feels sore, and my eyes feel heavy as I groan, keeping my eyes closed and trying to ignore the inevitable headache. Taking a few breaths, Iâm suddenly startled by a quiet rustling beside me, and my eyes shoot open. Looking around, I find myself in a room I donât recognize, and fear begins to course through my body. Glancing to my left, I see someone with their back to me, and I watch as they quickly pull a shirt over their head. Who the heck did I leave with last night? I watch as they turn to face me, and I feel my heart drop as I make eye contact with Rowan.
âRowan?â I stared at him in confusion. No. I canât be here right now.
âOh, good, youâre up,â he breathes, looking over at me.
âRowan? Where am I?â I mumble as I sit up. Looking down, I notice Iâm only wearing a T-shirt, that I immediately recognize as being one of Rowanâs. What did I do last night? âWait, did we?â I trail off as I try to remember what happened.
âNo,â he mutters. âNate left the party, and he asked me to take you home, but you were too drunk, so you stayed here,â he explains to me, and I breathe a sigh of relief. I watch as he walks around his room, continuing to get ready and avoiding my gaze. âWhat do you remember from last night?â he questions me, glancing over briefly. I rub my eyes and furrow my brow, trying to think.
âUh, not much. I remember going to the party, and then itâs just bits and pieces,â I admit. âI do remember punching Mateo and vaguely remember a pool incident,â I lied to him, burying my face in my hands in embarrassment before hesitantly looking at him again.
âThereâs some Tylenol on the table there,â he points at his bedside table, but I ignore his comment, still watching him curiously. My brow furrows as Rowan grabs something from his drawer and tucks it into the back of his waistband. Then, looking at his phone, he paces the room. He finally stops and looks at me, âI have to head out, but Nate can come pick you up whenever youâre ready. No rush, though. Youâre welcome to hang out here if you need to.â
He hands me my phone and glances around his room before grabbing something from his dresser and putting it into his pocket. âYour clothes are over there,â he points to a chair with my clothes folded on it. âIâll see you around,â he murmurs quickly before closing his door as he leaves. Fuck. That was awkward.
I sigh and lean back to rest against his headboard and open my phone and see two missed calls from my mom. Thatâs strange. Iâll call her later. Opening my messages, I quickly text Nate letting him know to come get me. Getting out of bed, I slowly go over to my clothes, looking around Rowanâs room, glancing at the pictures hanging on his walls and the trophies lining his bookshelf.
